I don't say too much on here, but this is very exciting and would be a very fun way to spend a Saturday or Sunday. Put a team together and get on up to Brainerd! As a state, I think we should be able to field 8 quality HS teams minimum. https://theguillotine.com/takedown-gym-takedown-all-star-duals/ Note: I am not affiliated in any way with the Takedown Gym. I just think this could become a great tradition in MN as it is in IL and a couple other states. If anyone needs a 145/152 lber for their team, I am sure Phil would be happy to wrestle for them. -Carl Skeps |

I thought this was a cool idea, as well. Some kids might be more apt to try or wrestle FS/GR if there is a team concept involved, much like youth and folkstyle. I've always wanted Club Duals to be a thing in FS/GR. Hopefully this takes off. I'm looking into fielding a team, as I type this. |

I think it's a great idea-but I wish there were different dates chosen. It's common courtesy and common sense, to not schedule another event too close to another. There might not be enough refs to go around- Grand Rapids has been holding their Combo tournament on this weekend for at least 3-4 years now, and there is also another tournament in the metro. Plus that Sunday is Mother's Day. I wish another date could have been chosen, so as not to cause a conflict. Edited by Tiny Tornado, Apr 18 2016, 07:12 PM.

What if post-Northern Plains/State was a time to do dual tournaments? The way the season keeps shrinking, we could use more competition dates after the Regionals and before Kids Natl's/Fargo. I realize that SB/Cadet/JR duals are during this time. However, for kids that aren't competing in those, or try to avoid those and have a couple of dual-style tournaments to stay fresh for Nationals and get multiple matches in a day. Pick 2-3 schools to host different ones in different areas of the state. Pick 2-3 weekends. Use state/np results to help "seed". I've found that after state (this year, likely after NP, since MN is hosting) that numbers drop off quite a bit in our club. I'm sure it is like that for others, as well. I know it's hard to keep kids wrestling later into the summer, but having that team aspect could keep a kid who maybe isn't doing Fargo/Kids Natl's engaged and motivated to keep practicing. A split-season, of sorts. Just something I thought about. I'm glad there's initiative into dual FS/GR tournaments, regardless. |
