I'm not a great international wrestling mind, but I think it's a joke that a scored point doesn't trump a clock point. |

I also don't understand how second passivity call isn't issued to the wrestler who never made a commit shot in the last 3 minutes. Edited by Jeep'n, Aug 20 2016, 09:26 AM.

When a match is 0-0 the refs just basically pick a guy to ding with the first point because they don't want the first period ending 0-0. Once there are points, they tend to be much less involved. That really worked against Cox because he was the aggressor most of the match. I think Cox is doing a fantastic job representing the US but I didn't understand why he blocked and ran away for 56 of the last 60 seconds. He really only needed to start his final push a few seconds earlier and would be wrestling for the gold. |

Apparently Cox (and his corner?) don't understand criteria rules or how to read a scoreboard. 1 - 1 means you are losing. Edited by BemidjiW, Aug 20 2016, 10:34 AM.

My guess is his lower back got wrenched on the snap down. His back issues have been well documented. He almost sat out of the trials due to his back. Ability was never in question, it was health. My hope is that treatment between the semi's & bronze match will allow him to wrestle uninhibited in his final match of his career. |

He was really close to scoring multiple times. I thought he was attacking with 1 min left & then at the 5:30 mark just stopped for some reason. That really stunk. He will probably have Salas Perez in the Bronze. He's tough... (It's an all Pan-Am repechage) Edited by skiptoops, Aug 20 2016, 11:30 AM.

“I thought I was winning. I didn’t know until the coach told me afterwards that I was down. I am not placing blame anywhere, there is no place to put blame. If I score more points, I win the match. I learned a valuable lesson today. It’s all good. I’ll figure it out. I have another match to get ready for. That is what I am looking forward to,” said Cox. http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2016/August/20/Cox-and-Dlagnev-to-wrestle-for-Olympic-bronze Yep, he thought he was ahead... "Yep, he thought he was ahead... " But you have to admire his attitude on it. This young man is going to be something to watch for years to come. |

The replay is here: http://stream.nbcolympics.com/mens-freestyle-wrestling-86kg-125kg-eliminations-mat-b The last minute of Cox's match is at the 2:17:45 mark. There is a stoppage of action at 4:59 and Cox goes into full defense mode and doesn't shoot again until 5 seconds left in the match. I understand not being familiar with the rules but everyone had to be familiar with the underlined number on on the clock. The coaches should have been screaming at him - I'm throw the pokemon doll and fabricate a protest to let J'Den know that he was behind. I agree that you have to admire his attitude though - he knows that he has to focus on the next match for one of the bronze medals. Edited by Iowan@heart, Aug 20 2016, 02:08 PM.

Wow.. talk about dramatics... Cox wins on a challenge.. Cox is up 1-0 but gets on the 30 second clock with 1 minute left. It means that he will lose on criteria if he doesn't get a takedown. Cox shoots with 1-2 seconds left on the shot clock and a 25 second scramble ensues. The ref stops the action to award the passivity point to the Cuban and the US challenges that Cox did have a takedown in the flurry. Officials finally agree and give Cox 2 to put him up 3-0 (or 3-1 like the scoreboard said) and the Cuban protests and refuses to continue with 6 seconds left in the match. He eventually walks off and Cox's hand is raised for the bronze. Official result is fall at 5:54 Pretty good for a 21-year old. Edited by Iowan@heart, Aug 20 2016, 02:35 PM.
