Here's a senario:
Wrestler A takes a 1-0 lead due to a shot clock violation in the 1st. Wrestler A gets put on th shot clock in the 2nd with a 1-0 lead. What is to stop wrestler A from stepping out of bound in the 30 seconds to give up a 1pt step out (which a score shuts off the shot clock) & then win 1-1 on caution criteria? (I believe this senario happened in Adeline Gray's match & she would have won on criteria if she didn't give up an exposure at 5:58.)

Wow.. talk about dramatics...

Cox wins on a challenge.. Cox is up 1-0 but gets on the 30 second clock with 1 minute left. It means that he will lose on criteria if he doesn't get a takedown. Cox shoots with 1-2 seconds left on the shot clock and a 25 second scramble ensues. The ref stops the action to award the passivity point to the Cuban and the US challenges that Cox did have a takedown in the flurry. Officials finally agree and give Cox 2 to put him up 3-0 (or 3-1 like the scoreboard said) and the Cuban protests and refuses to continue with 6 seconds left in the match. He eventually walks off and Cox's hand is raised for the bronze.

Official result is fall at 5:54

Pretty good for a 21-year old.
He continually improved since the NCAA finals. You have to give this kid credit for what he accomplished during his Olympic run that ended in a freaking bronze medal.

P.S. he is in a different league headed into the upcoming NCAA season. I feel sorry for his opponents this season.

He's had a back injury for about a year. He said he's had five practices over the last four months.

This could very well be the end of his career. If so, it's been a good one. It was stated he's wrestled for a bronze medal in every World Championship and Olympics that he's competed. That's very solid.

I saw it happen fairly often throughout the men's matches too. I figured there was some reason why they would let their opponent drive them off the mat as soon as they got on the shot clock. That makes sense - another subtlety that Cox probably wasn't aware of.

If you're put on the clock first and can't score, then step out of bounds - that way you win the 1-1 tie-breaker instead of losing it.

Not happy about Molinario's match. He scores on a high-crotch and then pushes off most of the rest of the match. He wins 2-2 on criteria but he needs to realize that a defensive style doesn't fly in international wrestling.

By the way, I realize that he took a bunch of half-shots which works well in folkstyle, but the problem is that he can't lean into his opponent (as in /|) for a full match

Snyder wins 10-3 in the first round (over the 10th ranked wrestler in the world).

Both US wrestlers through to the second round.

Synder wins pretty easily over the Cuban 10-3. Franklin Gomez for Puerto Rico beats Novachov for Bulgaria

Exactly... Just classic Molinaro. Gotta cheer for him though, he's carrying the colors.

Frank Molinaro vs Togrul ASGAROV (AZE) - #5 in the world
Kyle Snyder vs Albert Saritov (Romania)

A Russian who changed citizenship to Romania - Saritov beat Cael Sanderson at the 2011 World Championships. Look for locking up fingers and a very defensive match by Saritov (who I think is 30 or 31 years old).

Molinario gets put on the clock in the first minute. Gives up 2 takedowns and a pushout. Hanging on the head and blocking doesn't seem to be working.

Molinario got in deep on four or five singles and doubles and ended up getting pushed out on all of them. Dropped it 10-0

Last 5 points all scored by pushout, loses 10-0. Frank was the aggressor, but not aware of his surroundings

Franklin Gomez just got robbed IMO, got a td and looked like backs also, so after a challenge from his coaches the 2 is awarded to UZB instead and 0 to Gomez. Maybe I don't understand the rules completely. The refs seemed confused

I agree - it was hard to understand what the refs saw in that exchange.
